After 10 years of planning weddings, we’ve learned that the weddings guests remember most are rarely the ones with the most elements. They’re the weddings where people felt cared for and where the experience felt intentional.

This doesn’t mean certain details are “bad” or “not worth it.” If something genuinely matters to you, then it absolutely has value. But when couples want their investment to create the greatest overall impact, there are a few areas we often encourage them to think through carefully for the most peace of mind.

1. Wedding Favors Are Often Less Impactful Than Couples Expect

Wedding favors are one of the most commonly overestimated expenses in weddings.

After years of events, we’ve seen couples spend significant time and budget assembling beautifully packaged favors, such as custom boxes, chocolates, candles, mini plants, only for

many of them to remain untouched at the end of the evening.

That doesn’t mean favors should never be included. In fact, the most memorable favors are usually the ones that feel deeply personal, experiential, or intentionally tied to the couple themselves.

The favors guests genuinely respond to tend to be:

Something useful
Something interactive
Something culturally meaningful
Something connected to the couple’s story or wedding aesthetic

Thoughtful favors can absolutely elevate a guest experience. But generic favors included simply because they feel expected often create far less impact than couples anticipate.

We encourage couples to ask themselves: Does this add meaningful value to the experience, or is it simply another wedding tradition?

2. Ceremony Programs Are Beautiful… But Often Unnecessary

Printed ceremony programs are another detail we encourage couples to evaluate intentionally.

There are certainly situations where they serve a purpose:

Religious ceremonies where guests follow along
Multicultural ceremonies with meaningful explanations
Outdoor ceremonies where programs double as fans
Highly personalized ceremony experiences

But outside of those situations, many guests glance at them briefly before setting them aside.

For couples who appreciate refined design and elevated paper goods, there are often more impactful ways to incorporate stationery throughout the experience.
